Taryn Elise
Leading your Long Beach tattoo apprenticeship is Taryn Elise, the owner of Obscura, a 15-plus-year tattooing veteran, and one of the most passionate mentors in the industry. And yes, she's been waiting for the chance to say that.
Taryn's journey into tattooing spans more than a decade and a half of building her craft, her business, and her vision: one step, one client, and one studio at a time. In 2018, she co-founded Studio Phantasmagoria Art Collective in Rockaway Beach, NY, alongside her best friend and custom clothing designer Jackii Ramis, growing it quickly and bringing her first serious apprentice, Amanda Leigh, into the fold.
Amanda's story is one Taryn tells with obvious pride and for good reason. Taryn took her on in 2018 with a clear intention: to give Amanda the apprenticeship that Taryn herself never had. A positive environment. An encouraging space. An open-minded approach to learning. The result? Amanda has been tattooing professionally for over two years, excels across multiple styles, and became a highly skilled artist in a fraction of the time most people expect. That's not a coincidence. That's mentorship done right.
In 2022, Taryn found her next chapter, or as she puts it, Obscura found her. The opportunity to open the private custom studio she'd always imagined, right in her hometown of Long Beach, NY.
