It takes months of training, guidance, and the right support.
That’s why our Tattoo Apprenticeship was created: to give aspiring Tattoo Artists a path that’s built on experience, mentorship, and respect for the craft.
Let’s clear something up right away: Ink Different is not a tattoo school. We don’t offer quick classes or surface-level lessons. Instead, we’re a nationwide community of professional tattoo studios committed to providing a serious, in-depth Traditional Tattoo Apprenticeship. Our tattoo apprenticeship lasts 18 to 24 months, giving tattoo apprentices the time and space to develop their skills in depth.
The founder behind Ink Different is Paul-Anthony Surdi. Through his invitation into the tattoo industry in 2011, he saw firsthand how tough it can be to break in without existing relationships or a proper apprenticeship. His vision was clear: to build opportunities for aspiring professional Tattoo Artists to learn the whole picture: discipline, professionalism, and career readiness. Paul-Anthony wanted to empower people to make a living from their art and offer something that intentionally prepares Tattoo Artists for a long-lasting career, while maintaining excellence in the industry.
Those old-school two-week tattoo schools, tattoo videos, and “quick courses” miss the mark and are simply not enough. Many of them lack structure or don’t offer enough nearly enough hands-on experience, leaving artists unprepared for what comes next. Ink Different fills that gap with a structured tattoo apprenticeship that focuses on mastering the craft alongside professional tattoo artists with decades of experience.
We’re here to make sure every shop owner experiences a tattoo apprentice who develops not just with skills, but with the confidence and support needed for a long-lasting career.
