As the tattoo machines power down and the last client says goodbye, the tattoo studio shifts into wind-down mode. However, your day as a tattoo apprentice isn’t over just yet.
First, there’s cleanup. You break down your station, dispose of sharps properly, sanitize every surface, and make sure the space is spotless for the next day. It’s not glamorous, but it’s sacred. If you want to learn how to tattoo, you need to know how to take care of your space, the studio, and the craft.
Then, it’s time for reflection.
Most days, your mentor will take a few minutes to debrief with you. You’ll discuss what went well, where you improved, and what needs further focus tomorrow. Perhaps you've finally mastered a challenging technique or handled a client interaction with ease. Or, perhaps you struggled with line consistency and need to return to basics. Either way, you’re never left guessing.
You’ll also likely walk out with an art assignment: a style study, a custom design prompt, or a technical drill to sharpen your skills at home because this journey doesn’t stop when you leave the shop. Tattoo Artist training is a lifestyle, not a shift. And every hour you invest outside the studio builds the Tattoo Artist you’re becoming inside it.
And while the day might be physically exhausting, there’s something incredibly satisfying about it. You showed up, learned, contributed, and grew. And each day, you become more skilled and confident until you become the Tattoo Artist that you were meant to be.
