"I had first looked at it and looked at my options back in Louisiana and it was very difficult and not really possible, uh, with working full-time and just life, uh, it wasn't going to work there. I moved up here with my fiancé and decided kind of on a whim. Let's see if I have any options up here. This popped up the second I Googled tattoo apprenticeship, Brooklyn, and the rest is history."

"The main thing that I noticed was that the, um, first off, just how quick everybody with Ink Different was to respond to my questions was a huge green flag in my book that, uh, very welcoming of questions and any concerns were not that I really had any, but everybody was very available to talk things through, which I really appreciated."
The Flexibility of the Program
"One of the main things that stood out to me besides just how flexible the program was, uh, cause that was a huge draw for me with working full-time in a corporate environment, um, was that this is closer to a traditional apprenticeship, but the amount of time spent in the program, um, and while, you know, a year or two is quite an investment. It was a great sign to me that y'all really care about your apprentices and want to make sure that we're well-trained and really well-prepared for becoming full-fledged tattoo artists."

"Just the message of Ink Different with being a safe space for people to learn and become tattoo artists without hazing and really any concern to safety. Like that's not something I have to worry about, um, which is great. And I'm glad that something like this exists."

"Neo-traditional is still my favorite by far. I was surprised how much I liked drawing traditional once I, like, kind of understood the rules and how color works. New school was a challenge. I definitely have more of an appreciation for the just the artistry and the skill level needed to really execute that well."

Why Kevin Chose Ink Different Tattoos
"Once I found out about the apprenticeship program, I was like, okay, this is set up like a college class. I know I can trust it. It has a system. It's got courses and there are a bunch of other people doing it. So it's not just me and it's, and there's a contract drawn up. So I was like, all right, I trust this."
What challenges did Kevin experience learning How to Tattoo?
"Not many, cause I had such a wonderful network of people to work with. In phase one, I could always talk to my phase 1 instructor. At phase 2, I had a whole team of people that were here to help me. So I didn't run into a whole lot of issues. And whenever I did hit a snag or like I couldn't quite figure something out, I had people here at Ink Different to help me. So it was really pretty, pretty straightforward for me."
Two words: Gabriel Jakisch. Best teacher ever!! He's veteran in the tattooing industry & is extremely knowledgeable and serious about teaching people not just how to tattoo, but how to tattoo properly. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher & he really made my experience a memorable one and made it totally worth it.
